Our Expeditions program is designed to provide authentic real-world experiences through these Five Principles of Expeditionary Learning*
Our students experience learning that is:
Students take on roles (of film makers, activists, urban planners, artists, politicians, etc.) to investigate real world community problems and collaborate with peers to develop creative, actionable solutions.
Students at all levels are pushed to do more than they think they can. Excellence is expected in the quality of their work and thinking.
Students apply their skills and knowledge to real-world issues and problems to make positive change in their schools and communities. They see the relevance of their learning and are motivated by understanding that learning has purpose.
While individual reflection and growth is valued, very few people these days have careers that do not require accountability towards and connection with others. Productive behavior, high quality work, trust, respect, responsibility, and joy in the learning and creating process will permeate the classrooms.
Through formal structures of presentation, exhibition, critique, and data analysis, students share the knowledge they learn and create with others.
