Husky Bytes - January 29, 2018

(Image above: On Friday night, our boys basketball team had a dominant win against Summit Shasta and then came out to join students and faculty in cheering on our girls team!  )

Dear Families,

Last night, we had our annual Winter Formal, and it was a huge success!  I want to call out a few particular groups who put in a lot of effort to make that happen:

  • – Students on the Social Committee of Student Senate who led planning the event, contacting vendors, selling tickets, decorating the venue and coordinating set up and take down.  It was a great example of true student leadership, and it was impressive!
  • – The many parents who donated food to provide for a delicious and plentiful spread.  I heard more than one student comment, “Oh! Snacks!”
  • – Ms. Peñafort, Ms. Analla and the Giannattasios for spending time on set-up and take-down for snacks and decorations.
  • – The teachers and administrators who chaperoned.

Thank you all!  Our next big event is the Annual Summit Auction.  See below for more details about how you can get involved.  In addition, this week’s Husky Bytes will include:

  • – Events This Week
  • – Student Showcase & Student Spotlight: Jane Abrams
  • – 9th Grade Lottery is this Friday!  Parent Volunteers Needed
  • – Summit Prep Auction
  • – Summer Opportunity  (10th and 11th grade females): Girls Who Code
  • – Progress Reports Update
  • – Study Trip Drivers Sign Up

Summit Prep Auction

The auction committee invites you to join us for another fun-filled evening at our 9th Annual Summit Prep Auction on April 21, 2018, “Summer of Love”. We are busy making this special night full of surprises, fun with friends, food and drink. Preparations are underway for this event, and we are soliciting donations for both live, silent, and, for the first time ever, online auctions.

Your contribution is especially critical to our success this year. The generous contributions and ideas of Summit Prep families, friends, and staff make a tremendous impact and are some of the most highly sought after auction items. With your help, we can continue this tradition of support from Summit Prep families.

We are fortunate the Summit Prep community is diverse with talented individuals and valued business relationships that would benefit from our collective patronage. Please take a moment to think about areas in which you would be able to assist with our celebration.

Ideas to consider:
Goods and services: Do you provide a service, own a business, or have expertise in something that would interest the Summit Prep community (e.g., photography, financial planning, accounting, landscaping, music, knitting, coaching, catering, composting, etc.)? Can you donate original art, fine jewelry or unique items? Do you know local restaurant owners?

Arts, sports and experiences: Are you a season ticket holder for the arts or a local sports team? Do you have access to clubs or pastimes such as fishing, horseback riding, golfing, surfing, flying, or a day of wine-making? Would “a day in your life” inspire students?

Trains, planes and getaways: Do you have a cabin, vacation home, condo or RV – or do you know someone who could donate a getaway? Maybe you have a relationship with a great inn, hotel or resort that would like to raise its profile with other Summit Prep parents?

Celebrities and entertainment: Do you know a notable person who would be willing to have lunch with the winning bidder, make an appearance or provide entertainment at an event, or donate signed memorabilia? Would you host a memorable bash – a brunch or dinner with organic fare, afternoon tea, cocktails, cooking, beer-n-bocce?

As a reminder, all donations are considered tax deductible and we would like to have all donations committed no later than March 30th (in order to appear in our online auction). Donations may be pledged here, or email me (lynn.marrs@me.com) for a paper form.

With your generous support we can continue our mission of academic excellence, college-preparedness, and life and career success for all of our students. We welcome your leads and ideas! Your personal networks are invaluable to us and often a simple phone call by you goes a long way in securing a donation.

We deeply appreciate your enthusiasm and support!

Sincerely,
Lynn Marrs
Parent of Audrey, 9th grade student

Summer Opportunity (10th and 11th grade females): Girls Who Code

10th and 11th grade girls (rising juniors and seniors) can prepare for their future with the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program! Our Summer Immersion Programs are FREE 7-week summer programs for 10th–11th grade girls (rising juniors and seniors) to learn the computer science skills they need to make an impact in their community and be competitive in the job market of the future.
In the Summer Immersion Program, students will learn about:

Careers—They’ll meet female engineers and role models and get an inside look at technical roles in the world’s top companies, like Twitter, Amazon, and AT&T.

Skills and Impact—They’ll learn to code through real-world projects in art and storytelling, robotics, video games, websites, apps, and more—plus, they’ll create a final project that solves a real-world problem they care about!

Sisterhood—They’ll learn in a supportive, girls-only environment and make lifelong friendships!

P.S. For girls who don’t have seven weeks to devote to the program, we also have two-week Campus programs!

Progress Reports Update

We mailed out 9-11 grade progress reports this past week, including 10th and 11th grade PSAT scores, and they should have arrived at your home. Please reach out to let us know if this is not the case by Tuesday. Two things to note: senior mid-year transcripts were finalized on Friday, so we will be mailing those this week. Senior students may make a request to Ms. MacGillivray for any colleges that require the mid-year report. Additionally, 9th grade PSAT scores arrived to us separately than 10-11, so now that we have them, we will mail those home this week as well!

Mensaje de las Directoras

Queridas familias,

Ideas a considerar:
